Exodus 1:1 - 6:1

Haftarah - Isaiah 27:6 - 29:24

Brit Chadasha - Luke 20:27-47

Exodus 1:

1  Now these are the names of the children of Yisrael who came to Mitzraim; each man and his household came with Ya’acov:

 2  Reuven, Shimeon, Levi, and Yehudah;

 3 Yissachar, Zevulun, and Bineyamin;

4  Dan, Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.

5  All those who were descendants of Ya’acov were seventy persons (for Yoseph was in Mitzraim already).

6  And Yoseph died, all his brothers, and all that generation.

7  But the children of Yisrael were fruitful and increased abundantly, multiplied and grew exceedingly mighty; and the land was filled with them.

8  Now there arose a new king over Mitzraim, who did not know Yoseph.

 9  And he said to his people, "Look, the people of the children of Yisrael are more and mightier than we;

10  "come, let us deal shrewdly with them, lest they multiply, and it happen, in the event of war, that they also join our enemies and fight against us, and so go up out of the land."

11  Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh supply cities, Pit-om and Ra-meses.

12  But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were in dread of the children of Yisrael.

13  So the Egyptians  made the children of Yisrael serve with rigor.

14  And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage__in mortar, in brick, and in all manner of service in the field. All their service in which they made them serve was with rigor.

15  Then the king of Mitzraim spoke to the Iv-riyot  ( ty0r9b;fi  Hebrew) midwives, of whom the name of one was Shiph-rah (brightness) and the name of the other Pu-ah (splendid);

16  and he said, "When you do the duties of a midwife for the Iv-riyot women, and see them on the birthstools, if it is a son, then you shall kill him; but if it is a daughter, then she shall live."

17  But the midwives feared Elohim, and did not do as the king of Mitzraim commanded them, but saved the male children alive.

18  So the king of Mitzraim called for the midwives and said to them, "Why have you done this thing, and saved the male children alive?"

19  And the midwives said to Par-oh (Pharaoh), "Because the Iv-riyot women are not like the Egyptian women; for they are lively and give birth before the midwives come to them."

20  Therefore Elohim dealt well with the midwives, and the people multiplied and grew very mighty.

21  And so it was, because the midwives feared Elohim, that He provided households for them.

22  So Pharoh commanded all his people, saying, "Every son who is born you shall cast into the river, and every daughter you shall save alive."

Exodus 2:

1  And a man of the house of Levi went and took as wife a daughter of Levi.

2  So the woman conceived and bore a son. And when she saw that he was a beautiful child, she hid him three months.

3  But when she could no longer hide him, she took an ark of bulrushes for him, daubed it with asphalt and pitch, put the child in it, and laid it in the reeds by the river's bank.

4  And his sister stood afar off, to know what would be done to him. (What’s her name?)

5  Then the daughter of Pharoh came down to bathe at the river. And her maidens walked along the riverside; and when she saw the ark among the reeds, she sent her maid to get it.

6  And when she had opened it, she saw the child, and behold, the baby wept. So she had compassion on him, and said, "This is one of the Iv-rim' children."

7  Then his sister said to Pharoh's daughter, "Shall I go and call a nurse for you from the

Iv-riyot women, that she may nurse the child for you?"

8  And Pharoh's daughter said to her, "Go." So the maiden went and called the child's mother.

9  Then Pharoh's daughter said to her, "Take this child away and nurse him for me, and I will give you your wages." So the woman took the child and nursed him.

10  And the child grew, and she brought him to Pharoh's daughter, and he became her son. So she called his name Moseh (hW,mo), saying, "Because I drew him out of the water."

11  Now it came to pass in those days, when Moseh was grown, that he went out to his brethren and looked at their burdens. And he saw an Egyptian beating a Iv-ri, one of his brethren.

12  So he looked this way and that way, and when he saw no one, he killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand.

13  And when he went out the second day, behold, two Iv-rim men were fighting, and he said to the one who did the wrong, "Why are you striking your companion?"

14  Then he said, "Who made you a prince and a judge over us? Do you intend to kill me as you killed the Egyptian?" So Moseh feared and said, "Surely this thing is known!"

15  When Pharoh heard of this matter, he sought to kill Moseh. But Moseh fled from the face of Pharoh and dwelt in the land of Mid-yan (strife/contention); and he sat down by a well.

16  Now the priest of Midyan had seven daughters. And they came and drew water, and they filled the troughs to water their father's flock.

17  Then the shepherds came and drove them away; but Moseh stood up and helped them, and watered their flock.

18  When they came to Re-uel (lxeUfr4 “Friend of God”) their father, he said, "How is it that you have come so soon today?" (You will notice Re-uel has two names: Re-uel & Yit-ro.)

19  And they said, "An Egyptian delivered us from the hand of the shepherds, and he also drew enough water for us and watered the flock."

20  So he said to his daughters, "And where is he? Why is it that you have left the man? Call him, that he may eat bread."

21  Then Moseh was content to live with the man, and he gave Zip-porah ( hr!Poci “Little bird”)  his daughter to Moseh.

22  And she bore him a son, and he called his name Ger-shom (Mwor4Ge  “expulsion”); for he said, "I have been a stranger in a foreign land."

23  Now it happened in the process of time that the king of Mitzraim died. Then the children of Yisrael groaned because of the bondage, and they cried out; and their cry came up to Elohim because of the bondage.

24  So Elohim heard their groaning, and Elohim remembered His covenant with Avraham, with Yitzak, and with Ya’acov.

25  And Elohim looked upon the children of Yisrael, and Elohim acknowledged them.

Exodus 3:

1  Now Moseh was tending the flock of Yit-ro ( Ort;y9 Jethro = abundance) his father_in_law, the priest (nheKo) of Midyan. And he led the flock to the back of the desert, and came to Chorev (br2Ho Horeb = dry/desert, a lower summit of Mt. Sinai), the mountain of Elohim.

2  And the Angel (j`xAl4ma Mal-ak Messenger) of the Adonai appeared to him in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush. So he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, but the bush was not consumed.

3  Then Moseh said, "I will now turn aside and see this great sight, why the bush does not burn."

4  So when the Adonai saw that he turned aside to look, Elohim called to him from the midst of the bush and said, "Moseh, Moseh!" And he said, "Here I am" (ynin02hi Hineni)

5  Then He said, "Do not draw near this place. Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground."

6 Moreover He said, "I am Elo-he of your father__ Elo-he of Avraham,  Elo-he of Yitzak, and  Elo-he of Ya’acov." And Moseh hid his face, for he was afraid to look upon Elohim.

7  And the Adonai said: "I have surely seen the oppression of My people who are in Mitzraim, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows.

8  "So I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up from that land to a good and large land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Cenaan (merchant) and the Chitti (Terror) and the Amori (Mountaineer/Speak) and the Pe-rizzi (Village dwellers) and the Chiu-ui (Hivites = villagers) and the Ye-vusi (Jebusites Trodden down, threshing place).

9  "Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Yisrael has come to Me, and I have also seen the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them.

10  "Come now, therefore, and I will send you to Pharoh that you may bring My people, the children of Yisrael, out of Mitzraim."

11  But Moseh said to Elohim, "Who am I that I should go to Pharoh, and that I should bring the children of Yisrael out of Mitzraim?"

12  So He said, "I will certainly be with you. And this shall be a sign to you that I have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Mitzraim, you shall serve Elohim on this mountain."

13  Then Moseh said to Elohim, "Indeed, when I come to the children of Yisrael and say to them, `The Elohim of your fathers has sent me to you,' and they say to me, `What is His name?' what shall I say to them?"

14And Elohim said to Moseh,"I AM WHO I AM" (hy@h&x, rw,x3 hy@h&x,  Ehe-yeh asher Ehe-yeh) And He said, "Thus you shall say to the children of Yisrael, `I AM (to be/exist) has sent me to you.'"

15  Moreover Elohim said to Moseh, "Thus you shall say to the children of Yisrael: `Yehovah Elohim of your fathers, Elo-he of Avraham, Elo-he of Yitzak, and Elo-he of Ya’acov, has sent me to you. This is My name forever, and this is My memorial to all generations.' (What is?)

16  "Go and gather the elders of Yisrael together, and say to them, `Adonai Elohim of your fathers, Elo-he of Avraham, of Yitzak, and of Ya’acov, appeared to me, saying, "I have surely visited you and seen what is done to you in Mitzraim;  (Avraham’s God, Yitzak’s God, etc)

17  "and I have said I will bring you up out of the affliction of Mitzraim to the land of the Cenaan and the Chitti and the Amori and the Pe-rizzi and the Chiu-ui and the Ye-vusi, to a land flowing with milk and honey."'

18  "Then they will heed your voice; and you shall come, you and the elders of Yisrael, to the king of Mitzraim; and you shall say to him, `Adonai Elohim of the Iv-riyim (2 hebrews) has met with us; and now, please, let us go three days' journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to Adonai Elohenu.(our God)

19  "But I am sure that the king of Mitzraim will not let you go, no, not even by a mighty hand.

20  "So I will stretch out My hand and strike Mitzraim with all My wonders which I will do in its midst; and after that he will let you go.

21  "And I will give this people favor in the sight of the Egyptians; and it shall be, when you go, that you shall not go empty-handed.

22  "But every woman shall ask of her neighbor, namely, of her who dwells near her house, articles of silver, articles of gold, and clothing; and you shall put them on your sons and on your daughters. So you shall plunder the Egyptians."

Exodus 4:

1  Then Moseh answered and said, "But suppose they will not believe me or listen to my voice; suppose they say, `Adonai has not appeared to you.'"

2  So Adonai said to him, "What is that in your hand?" He said, "A rod."

3  And He said, "Cast it on the ground." So he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moseh fled from it.

4  Then Adonai said to Moseh, "Reach out your hand and take it by the tail" (and he reached out his hand and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand),

5  "that they may believe that Adonai Elohe of their fathers,  Elohe of Avraham,  Elohe of Yitzak, and Elohe of Ya’acov, has appeared to you."

6  Furthermore Adonai said to him, "Now put your hand in your bosom." And he put his hand in his bosom, and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous, like snow.

7  And He said, "Put your hand in your bosom again." So he put his hand in his bosom again, and drew it out of his bosom, and behold, it was restored like his other flesh.

8  "Then it will be, if they do not believe you, nor heed the message of the first sign, that they may believe the message of the latter sign.

9  "And it shall be, if they do not believe even these two signs, or listen to your voice, that you shall take water from the river and pour it on the dry land. And the water which you take from the river will become blood on the dry land."

10  Then Moseh said to Adonai, "ci-ado-na (my lord), I am not eloquent, neither before nor since You have spoken to Your servant; but I am slow of speech and slow of tongue."

11  So Adonai said to him, "Who has made man's mouth? Or who makes the mute, the deaf, the seeing, or the blind? Have not I, Adonai?

12  "Now therefore, go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall say."

13  But he said, "Ki-ado-na, please send by the hand of whomever else You may send."

14  So the anger of Adonai was kindled against Moseh, and He said: "Is not Ahar-on the Levite your brother? I know that he can speak well. And look, he is also coming out to meet you. When he sees you, he will be glad in his heart.

15  "Now you shall speak to him and put the words in his mouth. And I will be with your mouth and with his mouth, and I will teach you what you shall do.

16  "So he shall be your spokesman to the people. And he himself shall be as a mouth for you, and you shall be to him as Elohim.

17  "And you shall take this rod in your hand, with which you shall do the signs."

18  So Moseh went and returned to Yit-ro his father-in-law, and said to him, "Please let me go and return to my brethren who are in Mitzraim, and see whether they are still alive." And Yit-ro said to Moseh, "Go in peace."

19  And Adonai said to Moseh in Midyan, "Go, return to Mitzraim; for all the men who sought your life are dead."

20  Then Moseh took his wife and his sons and set them on a donkey, and he returned to the land of Mitzraim. And Moseh took the rod of Elohim in his hand.

21  And Adonai said to Moseh, "When you go back to Mitzraim, see that you do all those wonders before Pharoh which I have put in your hand. But I will harden his heart, so that he will not let the people go.

22  "Then you shall say to Pharoh, `Thus says Adonai: "Yisrael is My son, My firstborn.

23  "So I say to you, let My son go that he may serve Me. But if you refuse to let him go, indeed I will kill your son, your firstborn."'"

24  And it came to pass on the way, at the encampment, that Adonai met him and sought to kill him.

25  Then Zip-porah took a sharp stone and cut off the foreskin of her son and cast it at Moseh' feet, and said, "Surely you are a husband of blood to me!"

26  So He let him go. Then she said, "You are a husband of blood!" __because of the circumcision.

27 And Adonai said to Aha-ron (NOrh3xa  Aaron ?teaching/singing?: rhaxA = perhaps), "Go into the wilderness to meet Moseh." So he went and met him on the mountain of Elohim, and kissed him.

28  So Moseh told Aha-ron all the words of Adonai who had sent him, and all the signs which He had commanded him.

29  Then Moseh and Aha-ron went and gathered together all the elders of the children of Yisrael.

30  And Aha-ron spoke all the words which Adonai had spoken to Moseh. Then he did the signs in the sight of the people.

31  So the people believed; and when they heard that Adonai had visited the children of Yisrael and that He had looked on their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshiped.

Exodus 5:

1 Afterward Moseh and Ahar-on went in and told Pharoh, "Thus says Adonai Elohim of Yisrael: `Let My people go, that they may hold a feast to Me in the wilderness.'"

2  And Pharoh said, "Who is Adonai, that I should obey His voice to let Yisrael go? I do not know Adonai, nor will I let Yisrael go."

3 So they said, "The Elohim of the Iv-rim has met with us. Please, let us go three days' journey into the desert and sacrifice to the Adonai our Elohenu, lest He fall upon us with pestilence or with the sword."

4  Then the king of Mitzraim said to them, "Moseh and Aha-ron, why do you take the people from their work? Get back to your labor."

5  And Pharoh said, "Look, the people of the land are many now, and you make them rest from their labor!"

6  So the same day Pharoh commanded the taskmasters of the people and their officers, saying,

7  "You shall no longer give the people straw to make brick as before. Let them go and gather straw for themselves.

8  "And you shall lay on them the quota of bricks which they made before. You shall not reduce it. For they are idle; therefore they cry out, saying, `Let us go and sacrifice to our Elohim.'

9  "Let more work be laid on the men, that they may labor in it, and let them not regard false words."

10  And the taskmasters of the people and their officers went out and spoke to the people, saying, "Thus says Pharoh: `I will not give you straw.

11  `Go, get yourselves straw where you can find it; yet none of your work will be reduced.'"

12  So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Mitzraim to gather stubble instead of straw.

13  And the taskmasters forced them to hurry, saying, "Fulfill your work, your daily quota, as when there was straw."

14  Also the officers of the children of Yisrael, whom Pharoh's taskmasters had set over them, were beaten and were asked, "Why have you not fulfilled your task in making brick both yesterday and today, as before?"

15  Then the officers of the children of Yisrael came and cried out to Pharoh, saying, "Why are you dealing thus with your servants?

16  "There is no straw given to your servants, and they say to us, `Make brick!' And indeed your servants are beaten, but the fault is in your own people."

17  But he said, "You are idle! Idle! Therefore you say, `Let us go and sacrifice to Adonai.'

18  "Therefore go now and work; for no straw shall be given you, yet you shall deliver the quota of bricks."

19  And the officers of the children of Yisrael saw that they were in trouble after it was said, "You shall not reduce any bricks from your daily quota."

20  Then, as they came out from Pharoh, they met Moseh and Aha-ron who stood there to meet them.

21  And they said to them, "Let Adonai look on you and judge, because you have made us abhorrent in the sight of Pharoh and in the sight of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to kill us."

22  So Moseh returned to Adonai and said, "ado-na, why have You brought trouble on this people? Why is it You have sent me?

23  "For since I came to Pharoh to speak in Your name, he has done evil to this people; neither have You delivered Your people at all."

Exodus 6:

1  Then Adonai said to Moseh, "Now you shall see what I will do to Pharoh. For with a strong hand he will let them go, and with a strong hand he will drive them out of his land."

Haftarah

Isaiah 27:

6  Those who come He shall cause to take root in Ya’acov; Yisrael shall blossom and bud, And fill the face of the world with fruit.

7  Has He struck Yisrael as He struck those who struck him? Or has He been slain according to the slaughter of those who were slain by Him?

8  In measure, by sending it away, You contended with it. He removes it by His rough wind In the day of the east wind.

9  Therefore by this the iniquity of Ya’acov will be covered; And this is all the fruit of taking away his sin: When he makes all the stones of the altar Like chalkstones that are beaten to dust, Wooden images and incense altars shall not stand.

10  Yet the fortified city will be desolate, The habitation forsaken and left like a wilderness; There the calf will feed, and there it will lie down And consume its branches.

11  When its boughs are withered, they will be broken off; The women come and set them on fire. For it is a people of no understanding; Therefore He who made them will not have mercy on them, And He who formed them will show them no favor.

12  And it shall come to pass in that day That Adonai will thresh, from the channel of the River to the Brook of Mitzraim; And you will be gathered one by one, O you children of Yisrael.

13  So it shall be in that day: The great trumpet will be blown; They will come, who are about to perish in the land of Ash-shur, And they who are outcasts in the land of Mitzraim, And shall worship Adonai in the holy mount at Yerushalaim.

Isaiah 28:

1  Woe to the crown of pride, to the drunkards of Eph-raim, Whose glorious beauty is a fading flower which is at the head of the verdant valleys, To those who are overcome with wine!

2  Behold, Ado-na has a mighty and strong one, Like a tempest of hail and a destroying storm, Like a flood of mighty waters overflowing, Who will bring them down to the earth with His hand.

 3  The crown of pride, the drunkards of Eph-raim, Will be trampled underfoot;

4  And the glorious beauty is a fading flower Which is at the head of the verdant valley, Like the first fruit before the summer, Which an observer sees; He eats it up while it is still in his hand.

5  In that day the LORD of hosts will be For a crown of glory and a diadem of beauty To the remnant of His people,

6  For a spirit of justice to him who sits in judgment, And for strength to those who turn back the battle at the gate.

7  But they also have erred through wine, And through intoxicating drink are out of the way; The priest and the prophet have erred through intoxicating drink, They are swallowed up by wine, They are out of the way through intoxicating drink; They err in vision, they stumble in judgment.

8  For all tables are full of vomit and filth; No place is clean.

9  "Whom will he teach knowledge? And whom will he make to understand the message? Those just weaned from milk? Those just drawn from the breasts?

10  For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept, Line upon line, line upon line, Here a little, there a little."

11  For with stammering lips and another tongue He will speak to this people,

12  To whom He said, "This is the rest with which You may cause the weary to rest," And, "This is the refreshing"; Yet they would not hear.

13  But the word of the Adonai was to them, "Precept upon precept, precept upon precept, Line upon line, line upon line, Here a little, there a little," That they might go and fall backward, and be broken And snared and caught.

 Isaiah 29:

22  Therefore thus says the Adonai, who redeemed Avraham, concerning the house of Ya’acov: "Ya’acov shall not now be ashamed, Nor shall his face now grow pale;

23  But when he sees his children, The work of My hands, in his midst, They will hallow My name, And hallow the Holy One of Ya’acov, And fear the Elohim of Yisrael.

24  These also who erred in spirit will come to understanding, And those who complained will learn doctrine."

Brit Ha`Dashah

Luke 20:

27  Then some of the Zad-okim (MyqiOdcA  Sadducees = “Just”), who deny that there is a resurrection, came to Yeshua and asked Him,

28  saying: "Rabbi, Mosheh wrote to us that if a man's brother dies, having a wife, and he dies without children, his brother should take his wife and raise up offspring for his brother.

29  "Now there were seven brothers. And the first took a wife, and died without children.

30  "And the second took her as wife, and he died childless.

31  "Then the third took her, and in like manner the seven also; and they left no children, and died.

32  "Last of all the woman died also.

33  "Therefore, in the resurrection, whose wife does she become? For all seven had her as wife."

34  And Yeshua answered and said to them, "The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage.

 35  "But those who are counted worthy to attain that age, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry nor are given in marriage;

36  "nor can they die anymore, for they are equal to the angels and are sons of Elohim, being sons of the resurrection.

37  "But even Mosheh showed in the burning bush passage that the dead are raised, when he called HaAdoni `the Elohim of Avraham, the Elohim of Yitzak, and the Elohim of Ya’acov.'

38  "For He is not the Elohim of the dead but of the living, for all live to Him."

39  Then some of the scribes answered and said, "Rabbi, You have spoken well."

40  But after that they dared not question Him anymore.

41  And He said to them, "How can they say that the Messiah is the Son of David?

42 "Now David himself said in the Book of Psalms:`The Adonai (hO!hy4) said to my Adoni (yndoxa), "Sit at My right hand,

43  Till I make Your enemies Your footstool."' (Psalm 110:1)

44  "Therefore David calls Him `Adoni'; how is He then his Son?"

45  Then, in the hearing of all the people, He said to His disciples,

46  "Beware of the scribes, who desire to go around in long robes, love greetings in the marketplaces, the best seats in the synagogues, and the best places at feasts,

47  "who devour widows' houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. These will receive greater condemnation."
