Parasha: Genesis  9:18 - 17:27

Haftarah: Isaiah 40:27 - 42:16

Brit Chadasha: Romans 4:1-12

Genesis  9:  18  Now the sons of Noah (Noach) who went out of the ark were Shem , Ham, and Japheth (Yah-fet). And Ham was the father of Canaan (ken-ah-an).

19  These three were the sons of Noach, and from these the whole earth was populated.

20  And Noach began to be a farmer, and he planted a vineyard.

21  Then he drank of the wine and was drunk, and became uncovered in his tent.

22  And Ham, the father of Ken-ah-an, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brothers outside.

23  But Shem and Yah-fet took a garment, laid it on both their shoulders, and went backward and covered the nakedness of their father. Their faces were turned away, and they did not see their father's nakedness.

24  So Noach awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done to him.

25  Then he said: "Cursed be Ken-ah-an; A servant of servants He shall be to his brethren."

26  And he said: "Blessed be the Adonai, The God of Shem, And may Ken-ah-an be his servant.

27  May Eloheim enlarge Yah-fet, And may he dwell in the tents of Shem; And may Ken-ah-an  be his servant."

Note: Ken_ah' _an = "Lowlanders"(Nfan1k4) Merchant, trader; Traffickers; The 4th son of Ham, people of the seacoast.    (Not in the House of God - Zechariah 14:21 - See Hosea 12:7)

                        Noach = Rest.       H1(n

                        Yah' _feth ="opened"   tp,y!

Ham = "hot"  a collective name for Egyptians.   MHA

                        Shem = “Name”    Mwe

Genesis 11:  10  This is the genealogy of Shem: Shem was one hundred years old, and begot Arphaxad  (Ar_pak_shad')   two years after the flood.

Genesis 11:27  This is the genealogy of Terah (Ter-ach): Ter-ach begot Abram (Av_rawm') (Avram  Mr!b;Xa), Nahor (Na-hor'), and Haran (Ha-ran).  Haran begot Lot (tOl) .

28  And Ha-ran died before his father Ter-ach in his native land, in Ur (rUx) of the Chaldeans (Kasd-dim).

29  Then Avram and Na-hor  took wives: the name of Avram's wife was Sarai (yr1WA Sarai), and the name of  Na-hor's wife, Milcah (Mil_kaw'),  the daughter of Ha-ran the father of Mil-cah and the father of Iscah (Yis_kaw').

30  But Sarai was barren; she had no child.

31  And Te-rach took his son Avram and his grandson Lot, the son of Ha-ran, and his daughter_in_law Sarai, his son Avram's wife, and they went out with them from Ur of the Kasd-dim to go to the land of Ke-na-an; and they came to Ha-ran and dwelt there.

32  So the days of Te-rach were two hundred and five years, and Te-rach died in Ha-ran.  (Notice they name the place after Te-rach dead son, Ha-ran = "mountaineer").

Genesis 12: 1  Now Adonai had said to Avram: "Get out of your country, From your family And from your father's house, To a land that I will show you.

2  I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing.

3  I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed."

4  So Avram departed as Adonai had spoken to him, and Lot went with him. And Avram was seventy_five years old when he departed from Ha-ran.

5  Then Avram took Sarai his wife and Lot his brother's son, and all their possessions that they had gathered, and the people whom they had acquired in Ha-ran, and they departed to go to the land of Ke-na-an. So they came to the land of Ke-na-an (Nfan1k4).

6  Avram passed through the land to the place of She-chem, as far as the ter-e-binth tree (oak or turpentine) of Mo-reh. And the Canaanites (Ke-na-ani) were then in the land.

7  Then Adonai appeared to Avram and said, "To your descendants I will give this land." And there he built an altar to Adonai, who had appeared to him.

After the event with Avram, his wife and the prince of Pharaoh in chapter 12 we continue with:

Genesis 13:  1  Then Avram went up from Egypt, he and his wife and all that he had, and Lot with him, to the South.

2  Avram was very rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold.

3  And he went on his journey from the South as far as Bethel (Bet-el), to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bet-el and Ai,

4  to the place of the altar which he had made there at first. And there Avram called on the name of Adonai.

5  Lot also, who went with Avram, had flocks and herds and tents.

6  Now the land was not able to support them, that they might dwell together, for their possessions were so great that they could not dwell together.

7  And there was strife between the herdsmen of Avram's livestock and the herdsmen of Lot's livestock. The Canaanites (Ke-na-ani) and the Perizzites (Pe-riz-zi) then dwelt in the land.

8  So Avram said to Lot, "Please let there be no strife between you and me, and between my herdsmen and your herdsmen; for we are brethren.

9  "Is not the whole land before you? Please separate from me. If you take the left, then I will go to the right; or, if you go to the right, then I will go to the left."

10  And Lot lifted his eyes and saw all the plain of Jordan (Yar-den), that it was well watered everywhere (before Adonai destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah) like the garden of Adonai, like the land of Egypt as you go toward Zoar.

11  Then Lot chose for himself all the plain of Yar-den, and Lot journeyed east. And they separated from each other.

12  Avram dwelt in the land of Ken-ah-an, and Lot dwelt in the cities of the plain and pitched his tent even as far as Sodom (Se-dom).

13  But the men of Se-dom were exceedingly wicked and sinful against Adonai.

14  And Adonai said to Avram, after Lot had separated from him: "Lift your eyes now and look from the place where you are__northward, southward, eastward, and westward;

15  "for all the land which you see I give to you and your descendants forever.

16  "And I will make your descendants as the dust of the earth; so that if a man could number the dust of the earth, then your descendants also could be numbered.

During and after a turf battle of the surrounding kings over Se-dom and Gomorrah we continue with:

Genesis 14:  10  Now the Valley of Sid-dim was full of asphalt pits; and the kings of Sedom and Gomorrah (Amo-rah) fled; some fell there, and the remainder fled to the mountains.

11  Then they took all the goods of Se-dom and Amo-rah, and all their provisions, and went their way.

12  They also took Lot, Avram's brother's son who dwelt in Sodom, and his goods, and departed.

13  Then one who had escaped came and told Avram the Hebrew, for he dwelt by the terebinth trees of Mam-re the Amorite (Em-o-ri), brother of Eshcol (Esh-kol) and brother of An-er; and they were allies with Avram.

14  Now when Avram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his three hundred and eighteen trained servants who were born in his own house, and went in pursuit as far as Dan  (Notice- before Dan was ever born!).

15  He divided his forces against them by night, and he and his servants attacked them and pursued them as far as Hobah (Hovah), which is north of Damascus (Dam-ma-seku)

16  So he brought back all the goods, and also brought back his brother Lot and his goods, as well as the women and the people.

17  And the king of Se-dom went out to meet him at the Valley of Sha-veh (that is, the King's Valley), after his return from the defeat of Che-dor-la-omer and the kings who were with him.

18  Then Melchizedek (Mal-chi-sed-ek)  king of Salem (Sha-lem) brought out bread and wine; he was the priest of Eloheim, the Most High.

19  And he blessed him and said: "Blessed be Avram of Eloheim, the Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth;

20  And blessed be Eloheim, the Most High, Who has delivered your enemies into your hand." And he gave him a tithe of all.

Genesis 15:   1  After these things the word of Adonai came to Avram in a vision, saying, "Do not be afraid, Avram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward."

2  But Avram said, "Lord Eloheim (Ad-o-nay Ye-hov-ih), what will You give me, seeing I go childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer (Eli-ezer)  of Damascus (Dam-ma-seku)?"

3  Then Avram said, "Look, You have given me no offspring; indeed one born in my house is my heir!"

4  And behold, the word of Adonai came to him, saying, "This one shall not be your heir, but one who will come from your own body shall be your heir."

5  Then He brought him outside and said, "Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them." And He said to him, "So shall your descendants be."

6  And he believed in Adonai, and He accounted it to him for righteousness.

7  Then He said to him, "I am Adonai, who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans

(Cha-se-dim), to give you this land to inherit it."

8  And he said, "Lord Eloheim (Ad-o-nay Ye-hov-ih), how shall I know that I will inherit it?"

9  So He said to him, "Bring Me a three_year_old heifer, a three_year_old female goat, a three_year_old ram, a turtledove, and a young pigeon"(Only animals per-Torah fit for sacrifice)

10  Then he brought all these to Him and cut them in two, down the middle, and placed each piece opposite the other; but he did not cut the birds in two. (Prepared according to the Torah)

11  And when the vultures came down on the carcasses, Avram drove them away.

12  Now when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Avram; and behold, horror and great darkness fell upon him.

13  Then He said to Avram: "Know certainly that your descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs, and will serve them, and they will afflict them four hundred years.

14  "And also the nation whom they serve I will judge; afterward they shall come out with great possessions.

15  "Now as for you, you shall go to your fathers in peace; you shall be buried at a good old age.

16  "But in the fourth generation they shall return here, for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet complete."

17 And it came to pass, when the sun went down and it was dark, that behold, there appeared a smoking oven and a burning torch that passed between those pieces.

18  On the same day Adonai made a covenant with Avram, saying: "To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the River Euphrates– (God only passed through, without Avram. God’s promise had nothing to do with Avram’s efforts.)

So to help Eloheim, Sarai talks Avram into lying with her Egyptian hand maiden. Ha-gar become pregnant. Sarai become angry with Avram and sends Ha-gar away. We continue with:

Genesis 16:  7  Now the Angel of Adonai found her by a spring of water in the wilderness, by the spring on the way to Shur.

8  And He said, "Ha-gar, Sarai's maid, where have you come from, and where are you going?" She said, "I am fleeing from the presence of my mistress Sarai."

9  The Angel of Adonai said to her, "Return to your mistress, and submit yourself under her hand."

10  Then the Angel of Adonai said to her, "I will multiply your descendants exceedingly, so that they shall not be counted for multitude."

11  And the Angel of Adonai said to her: "Behold, you are with child, And you shall bear a son. You shall call his name Ishmael, Because Adonai has heard your affliction.

12  He shall be a wild man; His hand shall be against every man, And every man's hand against him. And he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren."

13  Then she called the name of Adonai who spoke to her, You_Are_the_God_Who_Sees; for she said, "Have I also here seen Him who sees me?"

14  Therefore the well was called Beer La-ha-i Ro-i; Hin-neh, it is between Ka-desh and Bered (Bared).

15  So Ha-gar bore Avram a son; and Avram named his son, whom Ha-gar bore, Ish-ma-el.

16  Avram was eighty_six years old when Ha-gar bore Ish-ma-el to Avram.

Genesis 17: 1  When Avram was ninety_nine years old, Adonai appeared to Avram and said to him, "I am Almighty God; walk before Me and be blameless.

2  And I will make My covenant between Me and you, and will multiply you exceedingly."

3  Then Avram fell on his face, and Eloheim talked with him, saying:

4  "As for Me, behold, My covenant is with you, and you shall be a father of many nations.

5  No longer shall your name be called Avram, but your name shall be Avraham (MhAr!b;x); for I have made you a father of many nations.

6  I will make you exceedingly fruitful; and I will make nations of you, and kings shall come from you.

7  And I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you in their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and your descendants after you.

8  Also I give to you and your descendants after you the land in which you are a stranger, all the land of Ken-ah-an, as an everlasting possession; and I will be their God."

9  And Eloheim said to Avraham: "As for you, you shall keep My covenant, you and your descendants after you throughout their generations.

 10  This is My covenant which you shall keep, between Me and you and your descendants after you: Every male child among you shall be circumcised;

11  and you shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between Me and you.

12  He who is eight days old among you shall be circumcised, every male child in your generations, he who is born in your house or bought with money from any foreigner who is not your descendant.

13  He who is born in your house and he who is bought with your money must be circumcised, and My covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.

14  And the uncircumcised male child, who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin, that person shall be cut off from his people; he has broken My covenant."

15  Then Eloheim said to Avraham, "As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, but Sarah ( hr!WA) shall be her name.

16  And I will bless her and also give you a son by her; then I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of peoples shall be from her."

17  Then Avraham fell on his face and laughed, and said in his heart, "Shall a child be born to a man who is one hundred years old? And shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a child?"

23  So Avraham took Ishmael his son, all who were born in his house and all who were bought with his money, every male among the men of Avraham's house, and circumcised the flesh of their foreskins that very same day, as Eloheim had said to him.

24  Avraham was ninety_nine years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.

25  And Ishmael his son was thirteen years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.

 26  That very same day Avraham was circumcised, and his son Ishmael;

27  and all the men of his house, born in the house or bought with money from a foreigner, were circumcised with him.

Haftarah

Isaiah 40:  27  Why do you say, O Jacov, And speak, O Israel: "My way is hidden from Adonai, And my just claim is passed over by my God"?

28  Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, Adonai, The Creator of the ends of the earth, Neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable.

Isaiah 42: 2  "Who raised up one from the east? Who in righteousness called him to His feet? Who gave the nations before him, And made him rule over kings? Who gave them as the dust to his sword, As driven stubble to his bow?

3  Who pursued them, and passed safely By the way that he had not gone with his feet?

4  Who has performed and done it, Calling the generations from the beginning? `I, Adonai, am the first; And with the last I am He.'"

5  The coastlands saw it and feared, The ends of the earth were afraid; They drew near and came. (The Gentiles came to see Yeshua)

6  Everyone helped his neighbor, And said to his brother, "Be of good courage!"

7  So the craftsman encouraged the goldsmith; He who smooths with the hammer inspired him who strikes the anvil, Saying, "It is ready for the soldering"; Then he fastened it with pegs, That it might not totter.

8  "But you, Israel, are My servant, Jacov whom I have chosen, The descendants of Avraham My friend.

9  You whom I have taken from the ends of the earth, And called from its farthest regions, And said to you, `You are My servant, I have chosen you and have not cast you away:

10  Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.'

11  "Behold, all those who were incensed against you Shall be ashamed and disgraced; They shall be as nothing, And those who strive with you shall perish.

12  You shall seek them and not find them__Those who contended with you. Those who war against you Shall be as nothing, As a nonexistent thing.

13  For I, Adonai your God, will hold your right hand, Saying to you, `Fear not, I will help you.'

14  "Fear not, you worm Jacob, You men of Israel! I will help you," says Adonai And your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.

15  "Behold, I will make you into a new threshing sledge with sharp teeth; You shall thresh the mountains and beat them small, And make the hills like chaff.

16  You shall winnow them, the wind shall carry them away, And the whirlwind shall scatter them; You shall rejoice in Adonai, And glory in the Holy One of Israel.

B`rit Ha`Dashah

Romans 4:  1  What then shall we say that Avraham our father has found according to the flesh?

2  For if Avraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before Eloheim.

3  For what does the Scripture say? "Avraham believed Eloheim, and it was accounted to him for righteousness."

4  Now to him who works, the wages are not counted as grace but as debt.

5  But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness,

6  just as Da-vid also describes the blessedness of the man to whom Eloheim imputes righteousness apart from works:

 7  "Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, And whose sins are covered;

8  Blessed is the man to whom Adonai shall not impute sin."

9  Does this blessedness then come upon the circumcised only, or upon the uncircumcised also?  For we say that faith was accounted to Avraham for righteousness.

10  How then was it accounted? While he was circumcised, or uncircumcised? Not while circumcised, but while uncircumcised.

11  And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had while still uncircumcised, that he might be the father of all those who believe, though they are uncircumcised, that righteousness might be imputed to them also,

12  and the father of circumcision to those who not only are of the circumcision, but who also walk in the steps of the faith which our father Avraham had while still uncircumcised.

NOTE:

Zechariah 14:21  Yes, every pot in Jerusalem and Judah shall be holiness to the LORD of hosts. Everyone who sacrifices shall come and take them and cook in them. In that day there shall no longer be a Canaanite in the house of the LORD of hosts.
